The David Giles Bowers' Sermon Collection (1852 – 2011; one folder) contains a photocopy of Bower’s personal sermon notebook and his biography.
Collection Historical Note
David Giles Bowers was a Methodist circuit rider in Texas during the 1850s and 1860s. Bowers was born in Gibson County, Tennessee on May 23, 1830. He came to Texas in 1852 and married Sarah Rachel Mayfield. David Giles Bowers and his wife had 10 children. He traveled and preached on the San Felipe and Bellville circuits from 1857 until 1867. While traveling, Bowers preached in many Texas towns including Huntsville in 1861. He lived near Burton, Texas until 1900 and then moved to Caldwell. David Giles Bowers died in Caldwell, Texas in 1917.
