The Grover McCormick, Sr. Papers are housed in three archival boxes. This collection is mainly comprised of McCormick’s family correspondence in addition to two scrapbooks containing correspondence, clippings, pamphlets and other documents depicting his professional life and photos of both his professional and family life.
Correspondence is arranged in chronological order. The scrapbooks were created by McCormick’s grandson Steve Larkin.

The materials that make up this collection represents Grover McCormick’s personal and professional life. Most of the correspondence is between McCormick and his mother Nancy. There are also several letters between McCormick and his children, cousin and his sister Lucia.
The first scrapbook contains a hand written timeline of the Ashcraft v. Tennessee case of 1944 and clippings with information on other important cases including McCormick's work with Jerry Lee Lewis. The second scrapbook is comprised of pictures, sermons, newspaper clippings, correspondence, certificates, event programs and other materials.
Grover Newton McCormick was born in Brighton Tennessee on December 22, 1885 to George Newton McCormick and Nancy Moffat. Grover was the first of four children from his father’s second marriage. Grover attended Robinson’s Preparatory School and later graduated as valedictorian from Erskine College in 1908. He received his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Cumberland in 1910. He became associate with Milton J. Anderson in Memphis Tennessee and in 1912 became a member of the law firm of Ramsey and McCormick. Grover McCormick was actively involved in various social organizations and was recognized as a notable man of Tennessee. He served as Assistant Professor at Boston College and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and the Chickasaw Guards’ Club.
McCormick married Marguerite Pittenger in August 1918. They had two daughters and a son (Gloria McCormick Larkin, Nancy McCormick Trigg and Grover McCormick, Jr.). McCormick was the proud grandparent to many grandchildren as well, including: Elton Edward Larkin, Jr., Charles Newton Larkin, Steven Noel Larkin, Gloria “Libba” Larkin Nance, Helen Marguerite Larkin, Jean Larkin Ayres, Henry Fisher Trigg, Jr., Marguerite Trigg Dykann, Nancy Trigg Hauck, Marie Trigg Baker, and Gloria Trigg Gilbert.
McCormick died in 1965 at the age of 80. He was hit by a truck as he was walking from his office to the courthouse.
