Collection Historical Note

Ann Staples is a descendant of the Ball and Eastham families, early citizens of Huntsville, Texas. As a child, she lived near the courthouse Square, in the home of her maternal grandparents, Florence and Harris G. Eastham. Her Uncle Albert and Aunt Ellana Ball were also very close to her and her mother, Winfred E. Staples. Ann and her mother moved to Houston when she was ten. After her career as an educator in Houston, Ann retired to Huntsville and lives in a small country home, which she inherited from her aunt and uncle, who had no children. She is an active volunteer in heritage and genealogical organizations, as well as Thoreau Woods Unitarian Church.
