This collection contains biographical information regarding Thomas Gary Anders donated by Ann Staples. Contents include an autobiographical memoir and photos, along with correspondence between Mrs. Staples and the Anders family.

Collection Historical Note

Thomas Gary Anders was born and raised in Walker County. Anders graduated from Sam Houston State Teachers’ College and was WII veteran, serving in the Marine Corps in the 1940’s. Anders’ service in the 1st Marines 5th Division earned him the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and several other accolades.

Upon his return from the war, Anders opened a successful water well business servicing the local area, as well as the five surrounding states. Anders also held membership in local organizations, such as the Audubon and Historical Societies.
