Collection Historical Note

Charles Garrett has done extensive work in Mexico with silver mining communities. Much of Garrett’s work was done in Batopilas, Mexico. Batopilas is located in the valley of Copper Canyon. Silver ore was first mined in Batopilas in 1632, and became one of the richest mining villages in the world. There are no longer any active mining operations in Batopilas; however, its significance in silver and mining history remains.
