Peter Ellis Bean was born to Lydia and William Bean, Jr. in Tennessee on June 8, 1783. He joined a filibustering expedition to Texas in 1800 and was later captured by the Spaniards and established residences in both Mexico and Texas. In 1815 he moved back to the US as a Mexican Colonel in search of aid for Morelos' cause. Bean also fought at the battle of New Orleans. Fleeing the royalists Bean left his first wife, Magdalena, behind. He married Candace Midkiff in 1820 and together they had three children. Bean and his family moved to East Texas in 1823 where he served Mexico as an Indian agent. He died on October 3, 1846 in Mexico at the home of his first wife.
